Cole Caswell has been shooting natural light Tintype commissions for the past decade. Working outside within the world allows for a dynamic photographic moment. Natural light tintypes can be made in a range of sizes 4×5, 5×7, and 8×10. Each size can accommodate any number of people. Exposures hover around one second and require the sitter to hold still momentarily while the exposure is made. This slow exposure allows aspects of the world to creep in as the wind blows a dress hem, a dog moves his muzzle, or a baby twists in a mothers grasp. Natural light is what was used in the 19th century to create tintype portraits.
